The 2026 Sabot Spring Symposium is an immersive 2.5-day professional learning experience grounded in the principles of the Reggio Emilia philosophy.

Participants will engage in rich dialogue with like-minded educators who share a commitment to transforming the learning experience for children. This experience equips educators with the skills and mindsets to nurture creativity, agency, and collaboration in their classrooms, preparing students to thrive at school and beyond.

The word “confronto” is an Italian word meaning comparison. It is used to describe a quality of dialogue that challenges the participants, empowering them to take on multiple perspectives and to try out ideas together, engaging in what might be called “cognitive conflict.” When we each have a stake in the outcome, a tension exists that is generative in nature and daringly beautiful. By leaning into this tension, thoughtfully and intentionally, it deepens the power and complexity of the learning and teaching experience.

In the Reggio Emilia Approach, this kind of tension is embraced as a vital force within relationships among children, teachers, and ideas. Rather than seeking immediate harmony, educators recognize that disagreement and uncertainty can spark growth. Through dialogue, documentation, and reflection, confronto becomes a way of co-constructing knowledge, honoring the diversity of perspectives that make learning richer. It is within this productive tension that creativity, collaboration, and new understanding emerge.
