Bike Week

We concluded biking in PE with a run-bike-run duathlon in each grade. The duathlons tend to be a culmination of the sportsmanship principles we work on all year. At each grade level it is fun to see the students support one another as well as try their own personal best. It gives them a chance to take responsible risk as they work towards accomplishing a goal. Below are some photos from the past two weeks.

On your mark, get set, go!

There were lots of cheer tunnels to run through during the duathlons.
Middle School students work on riding in close parameters.
8th grade students helped 2nd grade students with their riding. There were many opportunities for cross-grade interaction.
Kindergarten students made signs for their reading buddies.
Kindergarten students admire one of the middle school students… and his bike.
3rd grade students still had energy to race their preschool buddies after they came to cheer them on for the duathlons.
We talked a lot about “looking where you want to go” to support balance and good riding form. Students in grades 1 & 2 tried to ride with a beanbag balanced on their helmet.
Bean bag balanced!
These two friends have been racing each other hard in the duathlon since 1st grade!
Our first fourth grade finisher running hard all the way to the line.
In true Sabot fashion the 3rd grade students made up a game after their duathlon involving a whole town of people and jobs.
