Mabrey Matherly

Mabrey’s experience in child development began over 20 years ago when she was a teacher in a daycare in her home state of South Carolina. She was struck by the microcosms of community that she had the privilege to watch develop and support throughout her time at the daycare. She has also worked for Baltimore Public Schools tutoring children of a variety of ages. This showed her the constraints of systematic learning that the public school system holds.

Mabrey was drawn to Sabot because of the student-driven curriculum and the importance of the social-emotional development of the whole child, and chose Sabot for her own children’s education.

While she earned a bachelor’s degree in Marine Science from the University of South Carolina, she has studied a wide variety of subjects including human development, art, theater, and medical laboratory science. Her interests include outside activities, reading, cooking, building and creating art.
